Gold Coast After Hours Doctor operates a fully bulk billed surgery in Southport. We provide bulk billed medical care as well as after hours GP services available on weekends, nights and public holidays.
What is bulk billing?
Bulk billing and Medicare are Government initiatives that pay doctors 85% to 100% of your medical bill for eligible services. This helps doctors by simplifying billing and helps make medical services more accessible to everyone.
In other words, your doctor charges Medicare directly for your visit to the doctor. In most cases, this means by visiting a bulk billing doctor, you could have the majority or full cost of the visit paid for by Medicare.
If you visit a non-bulk billing doctor, you will be required to make full payment, however, you can still claim back part of or even the full amount from Medicare for eligible services.
Medicare usually does not cover the following:
- Physiotherapy
- Optical
- Ambulance (Residents of QLD are automatically covered for Ambulance services. Residents of others states may incur fees)
- Some types of dental
- Private hospital costs

The After Hours Doctor Southport is a General Practice clinic which is open from 6 am till 8 am, and 6 pm till 12 midnight, Monday to Friday. On weekends and public holidays, we are open from 6 am till 12 midnight.
House call services are availible in the whole After Hours period pending a health assessment. All house calls must be triaged and deemed medically necessary.

Not all patients will qualify for a home visit. Our service availability is subject to careful triage and evaluation as regulated by the Department of Health and in line with our AMDS Guideline.
If we are unable to supply home visits to patients, patients are encouraged to attend the After Hours Clinics (located at Southport and Palm Beach) or their local Hospital.
Emergencies
Patients who have symptoms of chest pain, severe shortness of breath and similar extreme problems are always directed to the hospital of their choice by ambulance for urgent medical assistance.
